Mrs. Lilli Mantyla age 76 years of Alice Ave.
died suddenly in hospital with her family at her side on Wednesday, January 01, 2003. Born on June 12, 1926 in Salla, Finland , she married Kauko Mantyla on December, 22, 1945 and they had just celebrated 57 years of marriage on Dec. 22, 2002.
She moved to Canada with her family in 1956.

She enjoyed the outdoors including camping, fishing, gardening, and especially time spent with her family; always willing to help and care for others.

Lillie helped with the building of several homes with her husband Kauko, and family.She is survived by her husband Kauko Daughters- Anita (Joe) Laurenson Ulla (Wayne) Laurin Sons- Pentti (Karren) Mantyla Kaleva Mantyla all of Thunder Bay. Numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren in Canada and many other relatives also survive in Finland and Sweden. Predeceased by her parents Heikki and Iida Ahola, and several other family members in Finland. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Lillie Mantyla will be held on Tuesday January, 07, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma, with Rev. Frank Maunula officiating. Interment to follow in Lappe Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the EVEREST CHAPEL. Mr. Kauko Mantyla, age 86 years

passed away peacefully at his residence with family by his side on Friday, September 11, 2009. Born on July 25, 1923 in Veteli, Finland Kauko married the former Lilli Ahola on December 22, 1945 and celebrated 57 years of marriage before her passing on January 1, 2003. While serving in World War II for Finland he was wounded and returned home. With his wife and children Kauko moved to Canada in 1956 and found work as a carpenter. Together with his wife and family he helped to build several homes in the Thunder Bay area. In their spare time, Kauko and Lilli enjoyed many happy years of camping and fishing. In recent years he was seen throughout town and local parks with his faithful dog, Otto. Survived by his children Anita (Joe) Laurenson, Ulla Laurin, Pentti (Karen) Mantyla and Kaleva (Elizabeth) Mantyla all of Thunder Bay. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren in Canada as well as many other relatives in Finland and Sweden also survive. Predeceased by his wife Lilli, son-in-law Wayne Laurin, parents Antti and Anna Mantyla and other family members in Finland. Funeral services for the late Mr. Kauko Mantyla will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma with Pastor Neil Otke officiating. Interment to follow in Lappe Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the EVEREST CHAPEL.
